Easter Week: Do You Forgive The Way Jesus Forgives You?

I have some questions:

  1. Have you ever been betrayed?
  2. Are you a forgiving person after being betrayed?

We are walking through Holy week so if we were living in the time where we would be watching Jesus walk to His death, today would be the day that Judas decides to turn Jesus in. Today is the day where Judas betrays Jesus even though He has done absolutely everything for Him. He has shown Him the miracles He can do and done no wrong.

One more question: do you think Jesus forgave Judas for this betrayal? I know what my answer is but what would yours be? It is hard to forgive someone that betrays you especially when it leads to an ultimate death. But Jesus did understand that these actions needed to be played out so that He could fulfill the Scriptures. Jesus is sinless so the obvious answer is that, yes, He did forgive Judas but Judas definitely did not forgive himself for doing it but that is a different story.

The point of this story is that betrayal is going to happen even to the Almighty and He is able to forgive regardless of the sin so why on earth is it so hard for us to forgive those around us that have done us wrong? Holding a grudge against them won’t make their life worse and it won’t make our life any better.

If holding a grudge against someone that has betrayed you has somehow made your life better, please enlighten me because in my experience holding a grudge has literally done nothing for me.  God tells us that we must protect our peace, right? So how does holding a grudge protect your peace, if anything it puts you more on edge especially when you are around the said person that has betrayed you. This does not mean that you have to become this person’s best friend it just means that they no longer phase you. What they have done no longer has a hold on you and you can walk through life with the peace that God has promises us.

Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins and I mean ALL of our sins. Regardless of what we did, regardless of the betrayal we brought against Him, regardless of the things we have said and regardless on if we used His name in vain, He forgave us. And He will keep forgiving us as long as we come to Him.

Like I have said before because of His ultimate sacrifice we no longer have to burn some kind of flour to be forgiven by God. All we have to do is go to Him, we must repent, and we must give our life to Him. We cannot go to heaven if we have any kind of hate or unforgiveness in our hearts. So, this is your task for the day, give to God the grudge you have been holding onto for so long, don’t ever pick it back up and go live the peace filled life that God wants us to have.

Somethings too think about & journal if you are feeling spunky:

  • What grudge are you holding onto?
  • Who has betrayed you that you refuse to forgive?
  • Has your life been better because of holding a grudge?
