To think we want to control everything when we are in fact not in control of anything except maybe how we react to things. I hope I am not alone when I say I absolutely want to be in control of everything in life. I am a perfectionist who insists on making sure life comes out exactly how I planned it. Well, that’s who I used to be…
It is an everyday struggle. Every day I have to wake up and decide that God is going to be in control because if I am in control everything will get a little crazy. Turns out I am not good at being in control of my life, who knew! If you know how I feel about this aspect of life, then you know how hard it is to get to a point in life where you do not want to control anything. There are days that the need to control wants to overtake me because things aren’t happening in the time frame I had expected them to happen. So, I have to keep this verse at the forefront of my mind:
Galatians 6:9 NLT
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
The timing we are hoping for things to happen in our life is almost never within the same timeframe God has for our lives. How difficult is that to come to terms with?
I know you are wanting certain things to happen right now. You want your business to just take off, you want to buy that house, you want your finances in a place where you don’t have to think about what is more important to purchase, you want that promotion to happen or whatever it is… you want it, now! I get it, 100% I do, and it is difficult when you think you are doing all of the right things that you know God told you to do yet absolutely nothing seems to be moving in life.
Reaping a harvest takes time. Have you ever planted anything in your life, like a real plant? Not something that was already halfway grown but you actually started with the seed. Once you plant that seed it will not magically grow the next day, that isn’t quite how it works, and I think you know that. Most plants need to be nourished, they need to be water and taken care of in some kind of way. Most plants need light just as much as they need to be watered. Little by little that little seed will turn into a tree or a flower or even something that you can eat. The point is, is that it took patience and nurturing for it to become what it is supposed to be.
Planting is the biggest metaphor for our lives when it comes to waiting on God’s timing. Think of yourself as the seed, be the mustard seed whatever it is that is what you are and you need to be nurtured, you need light and one day you will grow to be everything you were created to be.
You = seed
Nurture = God’s word
Light = God in general because we just need Him
Don’t give up on the person you are supposed to become just because you haven’t seen the harvest yet. You are just a little seedling right now, stay in God’s word and stay in God’s presence because one day you are going to be a tree and be everything God had created you to be. You will hear it and read it over and over: God’s timing is perfect, don’t give up.
Somethings to think about & journal if you are feeling spunky:
- Are you stopping yourself from growing by keeping control of your life?
- Are you willing to put in the work to see your harvest?
- Do you want to be who God created you to be in His timing?
