Have you ever read through the first few books of the bible? You know where Moses saves the Israelites, and they are incredibly ungrateful and wished to still stay in slavery. God has promise them their own promise land and shows them miracle after miracle, yet their belief and faith is majorly lacking. That’s my paraphrased and incredibly judge-y rendition of the first few books in the bible.
Then I started thinking about this story, even though the Israelites were lacking in so many areas and idolizing other gods at one point God still wanted to protect them and give them what He had promised. It may take a little longer to get them there because of their lack of faith and belief but He still wanted to give it to them. Those were His people who He loved and regardless of all the sinful things they have done He wanted to follow through on His promise.
A lot of the times we think we are too far gone for God to bless us. Sometimes we feel that we are undeserving because of the past life that we have lived. So many of us have sinned a ridiculous amount and still do. We are only human, and we are going to make mistakes. But, in spite of all of that God still wants to give us what He has promised us. It may take a little bit longer for us to get to what He has in store for us but if we are willing to change our ways we will get there.
The only reason we would not get to the life God has in store for us is if we have totally denounced God. But you know what is even crazier? Even if someone has denounced God and maybe doesn’t even believe in Him, He will still protect them because they are still a child of God but if your belief isn’t changed by the time they die that’s when things may get a little hell-like.
You don’t have to stay in the desert for 40 years. You don’t have to be struggling every single day of your life. You don’t have to keep acting like an early Israelite. You get to decide how this life can change.
First step: Turn to Jesus.
Second step: Give Him the control of your life.
Third step: Have faith that God is going to protect you and do what He has promised you.
No matter the screw ups. No matter the sin. No matter how far away you feel from God. He will always protect you and He will always be there for you in your time of need.
Somethings to think about & journal:
- Do you feel far from God?
- Are you wanting to get back to God?
- Do you want to stay in your own wilderness for 40 years?
