Are You Selfless or Selfish?

I heard a quote not too long ago that said this: “If everything you prayed for came true, would your life just get better or would the world get better?”

If this quote doesn’t get you thinking about how you use your prayer life, then I don’t know what will. I know we are supposed to go to God with all of our issues and problems and ask for help with them and leave them at His feet but don’t forget that you are not the only person in this world that has struggles.

I want us to have selfless prayers not selfish prayers. I want my prayers to change my life and the world around me, don’t you?

So let’s do a list of things you could pray for. You dont have to do it all at once, every single day but get in the habit of putting others before you because that is how we are going to ultimately love like Jesus.

We know that prayer changes things so praying for others is just as important as praying for ourselves. Things to pray for to make sure you’re being selfless:

  • Your family members
  • Your spouse
  • Your children
  • Family members you don’t even talk to
  • Friends
  • Ex-friends
  • Enemies
  • Changing people’s hearts
  • People you see on the side of the road struggling
  • Homeless people
  • Veterans who are having a rough time
  • People with diagnosis
  • People in hospitals
  • People with mental health issues

Yes, of course you can still pray for the things going on in your life. I am not telling you to not pray for yourself but let’s make sure that your prayer book is not just full of things you want changed in your life. There are so many people in this world that are struggling just to make it to the next day. So, why not show compassion where it is needed in this world. We live in an “all about me” society and it causes the division between most people.

My biggest prayer I do everyday is, “bless others just as much as you bless me. Bless them even more than me if needed.” I know that I am taken care of and that my life has been better than most so my blessings can wait if that means that someone is getting their kid off the street and into a safe new home.

Lay your prayers down and God’s feet but don’t forget that this world deserves to get better just as much as your life deserves to get better.
